The Virginia Blue Wave
A historically “red” state turned “blue” in 2018
What was once flat green fields used for farming is gradually becoming cul-de-sacs and townhouses. Research has shown that these residents of new communities often lean much more to the left and anti-gun sentiments increase.
Many of these new and liberal residents are the cause of the now Democratic Virginia statehouse. Despite Virginia being a historically “red” state, many credit the new wave of liberalism to an increase of diversity which is oftentimes a byproduct of urban growth. One in ten of Virginia voters were born outside of the US. Back in 2016, President Trump took 93 out of 113 of Virginia’s counties, but not enough to take the state. Along with the “blue wave”, many liberal voters hope that the President will have even less counties next election.
““1 in 10 of Virginia voters were born outside of the United States””
An organization by the name of “Virginia Blue Wave 2019” works to place more Democrats into the Virginia office. When Chris Bolling, executive director of the Virginia Democratic Party, was asked what this means, his response was sure: “This is the third straight message that we sent to the president... It’s three consecutive times that voters in Virginia are firmly rejecting the president and his policies, and we will continue doing so in 2020, and we’ll make this his last year in office. That's what I think the larger national takeaway from what happened in Virginia is.”
